My first priority was speed, then problem difficulty (in order of importance), then practicality. The algorithms I chose were: #6a - solve an equation for one variable #7a - convert the equation of an ellipse into the equation of a plane #10a - compute the integral of a polynomial #106a - convert the equation of an ellipse into the equation of a plane Jean Meeus Book Astronomical Algorithms Download
Since I have heard so much lately about the difficulty of offering astro-numerical algorithms, I did some scientific guesstimating to determine which of the algorithms from the book might be easier to use.
One of the problems is that while I like to read Meeus' work, I am nota math major, so I can be hard tripped by the wording of the algorithms. I just cut-and-paste them into my source code, hoping that I have some innate instinct to come up with the right algorithm.
To do this, I made a few decisions. I only wanted to evaluate algorithms based on the difference, not accuracy. Also, I wanted to see algorithms only, so I excluded all the chapter on precise computations in thebook. (I have not actually read this section, so I am not sure thisrepresentative sample is anything near total, but I think the point isspeculative enough.) 7211a4ac4a
